Peacock Killer Goes Free

In a Honolulu Circuit court yesterday 70-year-old Sandra Maloney was found not guilty on charges of animal cruelty. Maloney admitted to beating the peacock to death with a baseball bat outside her Makaha condo in May of 2009. She told the jury she killed the bird out of frustration after losing sleep and had plans to eat it. Maloney was facing up to a year in prison and a $2,000 fine for the second degree misdemeanor. After the verdict was announced Maloney told reporters “It’s open season on Peacocks.”
