Parking fines up 1,900 percent

It’s going to be a lot more expensive to park illegally on the Honolulu Community College starting.

Officials announced over the weekend that the current $2 fine for most parking violations is going up to $40 –a 1,900 percent increase.  The fee increases were approved last year by the UH Board of Regents. Here are some of the new fees:

Parking in prohibited areas, including but not limited to: lawns,
sidewalks, driveways, crosswalks “No Parking” areas, along curbs
painted red:  $40
Parking in the wrong zone: $40
Parking without a permit: $40
Failure to display permit or displaying it in an improper
location: $40
Double parking or not parked wholly within the parking space: $40
Parking in a reserved stall: $50
Altering or counterfeiting a permit: $100
