HonCC to Participate In Next Year’s Great Aloha President’s Run

By: Jordan Brown

The HonCC Great Aloha Run (GAR) committee has agreed to participate in the 2020 Presidents’ 100 Club #47. The school has requested for at least 100 runners to participate in the race in order to qualify as an official entrant. We encourage everyone on campus and their affiliates ranging from students, faculty, staff, administration, retirees, friends, and family to participate in this event. Last year’s event saw 110 entrants join the President’s 100 Club #47. Next year bears great significance as it also marks our centennial anniversary of the founding of our school!

The event will take place on President’s Day on February 17, 2020. We hope to exceed expectations this year by increasing the amount of participants compared to last year’s 110 entrants. The race will be approximately 8.15 miles long, beginning at Aloha Tower and ending at Aloha Stadium. On campus conditioning will be provided by following the layout of the campus map by using the link: https://www.honolulu.hawaii.edu/sites/www2.honolulu.hawaii.edu/files/gar-walking-map.pdf. The traditional after run picnic will take place underneath the Monkeypod trees in faculty parking lot 2. For more information about the race, use the link https://www.honolulu.hawaii.edu/greataloharun with pending updates being uploading shortly.

Deadline to sign up for the early entrance fee will be on November 29, 2019 at $40.00 for individuals aged 13-64. A special edition HonCC GAR t-shirt sponsored by a generous community sponsor will also be provided by those who sign up before November 29. For those who will not be participating but would still like to show their school spirit, the t-shirt will be provided for $20.  Between November 30, 2019 and January 24, 2020, the registration fee will increase to $45. For those that opt to enroll during race day, the fee will be $25 for children aged 5-12 and seniors aged 65+. Potential entrants are also encouraged to sign up via online using the link www.greataloharun.com. All participants upon enrolling must also use HonCC’s club code “#47” to be included within the Presidents’ 100 Club, as well as to receive special perks.

Want to help spread the word? All of you can help by word of mouth, various sponsorships, assisting recruitment staff (coordinated through the Health Office), and volunteering within the program.

Best of luck to all of our participants and to a successful and gratifying race!
