students represented Honolulu Community College at the annual Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society Convention in Orlando, Florida last week.
Jamie Rodriguez, Lehua Rowland and Jhomar Sarmiento accepted the Distinguished Honors in Action Project Award in recognition of the HCC Alpha Kappa Iota Chapter’s Honors in Action Project: “Ho’okuku a me Laulima – Ka Mo’olelo o Haloa: Competitiveness and Cooperation – The Story of Taro”.
“What a thrill it was to have our HCC students go up on stage to receive this award in front of an audience of 4,100 cheering Phi Theta Kappa convention attendees,” Chancellor Erika Lacro said in an e-mail sent out to faculty and staff.
The HCC Alpha Kappa Iota Chapter was also named a Top 100 Chapter, the only Pacific Region chapter in the top 100, out of 1,300 chapters across the U.S. and other countries.
