Honolulu Community College’s Summer Journalism Academy will be held from July 14-25 2014.
The program is open to high school sophomores, juniors and seniors interesting in learning about or expanding their knowledge of journalism skills. The emphasis will be on hands-on work guided by current and former professional journalists from Hawaii. The curriculum includes and introduction to writing, photography, video and design. All student work will be designed to be published in a special Honolulu Community College website and the school’s student newspaper, Ka La.
This summer academy is designed to orient students to the college setting as well as gain knowledge that they can take back to their own school newspapers and journalism programs. In addition to journalism skills, students will learn to identify campus resources, demonstrate knowledge of

Space is limited so please apply as soon as possible. Only 25 students will be selected for the Journalism Academy. The program will run from
Jul6 14, 2014 to July 25, 2014 from 8 s.m. to 12 noon. The application deadline is April 30, 2014. Registration fee is $25. Students from a Title 1 school will be admitted free.
