There’s no other feeling like playing with a team or building comradery with your teammates. And whether it’s flag football, soccer or quidditch, intramural sports gives Honolulu Community College students a chance to experience that feeling.

“It’s fun because we challenged different schools such as UH West Oahu and LCC,” said Jack Anson, an HCC sophomore currently competing on the flag football team. “I have fun and enjoy it; you should come out and play,” he said.

Anson is one of many students competing in the intramural teams this semester. The teams are sponsored by the HonCC Student Activities Board in collaboration with Leeward CC. The mission statement behind intramural sports at Honolulu CC is to provide students, the opportunities to engage in organized sports, not only to grow, but to learn and develop, and respect others through a positive experience.

The Honolulu CC teams play against other schools, such as Kapiolani, Windward CC, and UH West Oahu at Moanalua Community Park in Salt Lake. The football season, which ends Oct. 13, is a seven on seven game with the maximum of 14 players and games played with five-minute quarters from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m

The quidditch season runs through October 27, and soccer runs from Nov. 3 to Dec. 8.

Students interested in participating should get more information at the Student Life & Development office in Building 2.
