For over 50 years, the Molokai Hoe has attracted paddlers from around the world. Oct. 13 marks the 61th annual outrigger canoe race, with over 1,000 paddlers expected to participate.

This event is organized by the Oahu Hawaiian Canoe Racing Association, and is a championship race for the men’s division. The paddlers start at Hale O Lono Harbor, Molokai, and finish at Duke Kahanamoku Beach Waikiki, Oahu.

The non-profit organization puts on this event to perpetuate the original Hawaiian sport of Hawaiian koa canoe racing, according to OHCRA.
