Preparations under way for Ho’olaule’a

A back corner of Honolulu Community College has been full of activity the past two days, as faculty, staff, students and other work to get ready for Wednesday’s Ho’olaule’a on campus.

On Monday and Tuesday, most of the activity centered around Ka māla o Niuhelewai, the school’s garden area, where work was being done to prepare an imu, or oven, that will provide much of the food for Wednesday’s event.

Ka La photographer Christopher Garcia spent much of the past two days documenting the effort — and he’ll be on hand on Wednesday to photograph the event.

More than 300 people are expected to take part.
